Black economic empowerment  »  Proposed Bidvest BEE process in Namibia

Bidvest Namibia Empowerment Partner

Ovanhu

Ovanhu is the flagship BEE entity, owning, subsequent to the listing of Bidvest Namibia, an initial 14.81% shareholding in Bidvest Namibia, translating to an initial value of N$220.6 million at the listing price.

Ovanhu is an Oshiwambo word meaning ’people’. It is derived from an old African word which is recognised across several dialects and languages across Southern Africa and encapsulates Bidvest Namibia’s commitment to communicate a positive perception of all-embracing BEE while providing the vast majority of Namibians with access to equity participation in Bidvest Namibia.

Ovanhu is about people. It’s not just about the bottom line. It’s about belief in entrepreneurship and the independence of the human spirit. Ovanhu reflects hope, celebration, and a sense of achievement. Most importantly, Ovanhu acknowledges the spirit of ownership which is a prerequisite for individuals looking to cultivate a sense of belonging and develop the confidence and self-reliance necessary for independent action on their own initiatives.

The Ovanhu Structure includes the Lead Engagement Partners: Martin Shipanga, Martina Mokgatle and Bobboh Kathindi; Women’s Action for Development (WAD), Labour Investment Holdings (LIH) and Bidvest Namibia Community Investment Trust of which War Veterans, Pensioners, Conservancies and other communities have been identified as the key beneficiaries.
